All right, I couldn’t resist. The Wizard of Oz was one of the first theatrical performances I ever went to. Knee-high to a grasshopper (and just about as jumpy!) I remember sitting on my mom’s lap and screaming every time the flying monkeys came swooping by.
The actors on that stage gave a stellar performance. More than once over the years I’ve wondered where Dorothy and Glinda and yes, even the Wicked Witch ended up. Hopefully they’re still passing out their ZED cards and getting up on stage to give some other little girl the time of her life.
What are ZED Cards?
Stellar performances count. Stellar performances accompanied by a killer ZED card are the keys to closing the deal.
ZED cards are the business cards of the modeling industry, pairing head shots and a diverse range of poses with vital stats to make sure the individual is remembered long after the audition is over. A good ZED card is more important than a good portfolio, because it’s going to be going home with the individual hosting the audition rather than back in your pocket.
What Makes a Good ZED Card?
Nowhere is it written that you have to spend a fortune to create your ZED cards. A good photographer, a professional printer and some good photo software will do the trick. What you do need to spend money and attention on are:
• A high quality head shot
• Key pieces of your portfolio for inclusion on the back
• Information. Is your contact information up to date? Are your stats correct? (Height, weight, etc.-You can decide what you want to include) The last thing you want to do is miss out on a job because you forgot to update your card before audition day.
• Visual appeal. This is BIG. These guys see hundreds of ZED cards just like yours every week. Make yours pop and you’ll be sure to make a first impression.
