I’ve never been so proud to be a New Yorker. Why? Because last night I had the chance to bear witness to one of the most unique moments in history-the moment a politician gave a speechless speech in front of the house and won the hearts of his constituents one elementary school grade giant tablet sheet at a time.
New York Rep. Joseph Crowley got up in front of the house and delivered a moving
speech arguing GOP budget cuts without saying a single word. He relied entirely on the visuals and the impact of his positioning, the simplicity of its message and its appeal to the common man through viral channels, to make his point. And the public response has been phenomenal.

What moved me the most about this speechless speech wasn’t its uniqueness, although it was certainly unique, but the striking contrast with what we usually see gracing our tv. He got right to the heart of the matter-politicians are talking and talking, and we’ve gotten to the point where all those words are starting to trip each other up. They’re creating their own haze of vowels and consonants, bending and twisting to the point that listeners are no longer getting anything of value out of the experience.
Take a marketing lesson from our congressman and get straight to the heart of the matter. Let your visuals speak for themselves. Let yourself be speechless.
