Small Business Marketing Tips, Part 3: Making Your Direct Mail Marketing Campaign and Your Social Media Marketing Work Together

Would you try and keep peanut butter and jelly apart? We wouldn't either.

Peanut Butter and Jelly. Romeo and Juliet. Apples and Bananas. Pizza and Pepperoni. Spaghetti and…well, you get the picture. Some things were just meant to be together.

Like direct mail marketing and social media.

Wait, seriously? I can hear your laughter all the way up here. Before you click off the page, however, take a second to think out of the box. Nowhere is it written that you have to isolate your online marketing campaign from your offline one. You’d be amazed at how well these two direct lines of communication go together, primarily because they’re exactly that-direct lines of communication with your customer. Both carry the message you want to send. Both are designed to appeal directly to them rather than through some impartial third party, the way a press release does. Both have to be perfectly tailored to reach your target market, because there’s not going to be a secondary sales person standing in between.

What would you send out direct mail for? If you’d mail a direct mail postcard, place a phone call or mention it to the man on the street, it should be out there on your social media. Oh, sure, social media is cheaper, so you can get a lot more use out of it.  Don’t forget about your friend the direct mail marketing piece, however. At the end of the day,  it’s all about how you talk to your customers.
